The town of Essex Massachusetts, located on Cape Ann, just 30 miles north of Boston has historically been known as the oldest continuously operating shipbuilding area of the United States, boasting over 4,000 two-masted vessels. For nearly 100 years, Essex was recognized world-wide as North America's center for fishing schooner construction. You can relive that time in Essex today through the Essex Shipbuilding Museum.

But the Essex of today has much to offer besides its shipbuilding hertitage. Come explore our over 30 antique or gift shops like Sea Meadow or sample fresh Essex steamer clams at our many fresh seafood restaurants like Essex Seafood. Included in Essex of course is world famous Woodmans, home of the first fried clam. Take an Essex River Cruise or pilot your own kayak on the Essex River. Play a round of golf or hike a country trail. There is plenty to see and enjoy in this small but vibrant New England town.
